Hair Loss Treatment & Transplantation

Hair loss affects millions of men and women of all ages, and can occur as a result of aging, heredity, and certain medications or medical conditions. Most people find this change in appearance undesirable, as it can result in pattern baldness, patchy spots or thinned hair–and there’s currently no cure available.
While most hair loss is permanent, there are fortunately several treatments to counteract incurable hair loss. Treatments range from corticosteroids–administered via pills, injections or topical ointments–or other medications such as Minoxidil (Rogain) and Finasteride (Proscar), to follicular unit transplantation (FUT). Newer, emerging treatments such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and SVF Stem Cell therapy are also available.

The most effective treatment options for hair loss usually include surgical hair transplantation. Generally, hair is transplanted from the donor site to the affected area in order to restore a natural appearance in both men and women. Dr. Victor specializes in follicular unit transplantation, a surgical procedure in which hair is transplanted as natural individual follicular units into the targeted area. Each unit consists of between one and four individual hair follicles and is strategically placed in the recipient area. This hair is the patient’s own living hair–it will grow as normal and can be cut and styled as usual after healing. Treatments like PRP and SVF do not require surgical procedures. Instead, a series of injections into the scalp are administered every 3-4 weeks for 6-8 months. For more information on SVF cell therapy treatments and science, click here.

The Process

  • The patient is evaluated by Dr. Victor and a course of treatment is decided upon
  • For patients treating hair loss with nonsurgical treatments, the proper medications will be prescribed
  • For patients undergoing hair transplantation procedures, the follicular units are first surgically removed from the donor area–usually the back of the scalp
  • The follicular units are then transplanted into the affected area to create a natural looking hairline
